Was Palestine a Country Before 1948? The Historical Truth They Don’t Want You to Know

Palestine is an Islamic colonial project

You’ve heard the narrative a thousand times: Israel “stole” Palestine from the Palestinians in 1948. The “occupation” destroyed an ancient nation. The Jews are colonizers who displaced an indigenous people with deep roots in the land.

But here’s the question nobody wants you to ask: Was Palestine even a country before 1948?

The answer will shatter everything you’ve been told about this conflict. And once you understand the historical reality—documented, verified, and deliberately hidden from public view—you’ll see why this narrative isn’t just misleading. It’s a manufactured myth designed to weaponize guilt and rewrite history.

The Inconvenient Historical Fact: Palestine Was Never a Sovereign Nation

Let’s start with the most basic truth: Palestine was never an independent country, nation-state, or sovereign entity at any point in history before 1948.

Not under the Ottomans, who controlled the region for 400 years until 1917. Not under the British Mandate that followed. Not ever.

The territory known as “Palestine” was a geographic region, not a political entity. Think of it like “the Midwest” or “New England”—a descriptor of an area, not a country with borders, government, currency, or national identity.

Under Ottoman rule, the area was divided into administrative districts called “vilayets” and “sanjaks.” There was no “State of Palestine,” no “Palestinian government,” and no distinct “Palestinian” nationality that separated Arab residents of this region from Arabs in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, or Jordan. They were simply Ottoman subjects, then British Mandate residents.

When the British took control in 1917, they created the “British Mandate for Palestine”—but this was an administrative territory under colonial rule, not an independent nation. The Mandate’s purpose, as outlined by the League of Nations in 1922, was explicitly to facilitate “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.”

Here’s what Palestine never had before 1948:

  • No Palestinian currency
  • No Palestinian government
  • No Palestinian borders are recognized internationally
  • No Palestinian passport (the “Palestinian” passports issued under the British Mandate were for both Jews and Arabs living in the region, and many of the major institutions labeled “Palestinian” were actually Jewish)
  • No unified Palestinian national movement until the 1960s

But here’s where the story gets fascinating—and where the lies begin to unravel.

The Flood Nobody Talks About: Arab Illegal Immigration to Palestine

While you’ve been told that Jews “flooded” Palestine as European colonizers, here’s what they’re hiding: Arabs illegally immigrated to Palestine in massive numbers during the British Mandate period, drawn by the economic opportunities created by Jewish settlement and British investment.

Yes, you read that correctly.

The Hope Simpson Commission, sent by Britain in 1930 to investigate the 1929 Arab riots, reported something remarkable: “This illegal immigration was not only going on from the Sinai, but also from Transjordan and Syria.”

The British Governor of the Sinai from 1922-1936 observed that Arab illegal immigration was so widespread that “it is challenging to make a case out for the misery of the Arabs” when they were simultaneously flooding into the region.

Here are the documented facts:

The Royal Institute for International Affairs noted that “the number of Arabs who have entered Palestine illegally from Syria and Transjordan is unknown. But probably considerable.”

Between 1922 and 1931, the Arab population in Palestine grew exponentially—not primarily through natural increase, but through illegal immigration from Egypt, Syria, Transjordan, and throughout the Arab world. They came for jobs. They pursued unprecedented economic development. They came because Jewish investment and British infrastructure transformed a neglected Ottoman backwater into the Middle East’s most economically advanced region.

While the British severely restricted Jewish immigration—creating quotas, turning away Holocaust refugees, even sending ships full of Jewish survivors back to Europe—Arab immigration faced no restrictions whatsoever.

Let that sink in. The British, who controlled immigration policy, allowed unlimited Arab entry while systematically blocking Jewish refugees fleeing persecution and genocide.

A 2010 Middle East Quarterly study titled “The Smoking Gun: Arab Immigration into Palestine, 1922-1931” analyzed Ottoman registration data and British Mandate census records. The evidence was clear: a significant portion of Palestine’s Arab population growth was due to immigration, not to the native population.

Demographer U.O. Schmelz’s analysis of Ottoman registration data showed that approximately half of Arab Palestinians living outside their localities of residence represented immigration into Palestine itself—43 percent from Asia, 39 percent from Africa, and 20 percent from Turkey.

The economic magnet was real: Jewish brought European capital, European technology, and European standards of living. Wages in Jewish-developed areas were exponentially higher than in surrounding Arab countries. Modern healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure followed Jewish settlement. And Arabs came—by the thousands—seeking opportunity.

This doesn’t fit the narrative of “indigenous Palestinians” being displaced by “foreign colonizers,” does it?

The Violence They Never Mention: Arab Massacres of Jews

You’ve heard endlessly about the “Nakba”—the supposed catastrophe that befell Arabs in 1948. But here’s what they won’t teach in universities: Arabs were massacring Jews decades before the State of Israel existed.

The Hebron Massacre of 1929: A Preview of October 7th

On August 24, 1929, Arab mobs carried out one of the most brutal pogroms in modern history—in Hebron. In this city, Jews had lived continuously for centuries, long before Islam even existed.

What happened was unspeakable:

67 Jews were murdered. Dozens more were wounded, mutilated, and raped. The British Shaw Commission, investigating the massacre, reported: “About 9 o’clock on the morning of the 24th of August, Arabs in Hebron made a most ferocious attack on the Jewish ghetto and on isolated Jewish houses.”

The details are nightmarish:

  • Women and teenage girls were raped in front of their family members
  • Infants were murdered in their mothers’ arms
  • Children watched as their parents were butchered by their Arab neighbors
  • Rabbis and yeshiva students were castrated and mutilated
  • A pharmacist who had served both Jews and Arabs for 40 years was killed along with his entire family—his daughter was raped, then murdered.

One British police officer described finding “an Arab in the act of cutting off a child’s head with a sword.” Another officer reported bodies that had been “burned so much that the legs were separated from the body.”

The British High Commissioner later wrote: “The horror of it is beyond words. In one house I visited, not less than twenty-five Jewish men and women were murdered in cold blood.”

Who incited this massacre? Hajj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, was spreading false rumors that Jews were planning to seize control of the Temple Mount. The same lie that continues to incite violence today.

This wasn’t an isolated incident. The 1929 riots killed 133 Jews across Palestine. In Safed, another massacre claimed 45 Jewish lives, with similar brutality—bodies mutilated, children’s heads smashed, victims stabbed repeatedly and trampled to death.

This happened in 1929. No Israeli “occupation.” No Israeli state. No post-1967 borders to argue about. Just Arabs murdering Jews for being Jewish.

Does this sound familiar? It should. Hamas called their October 7, 2023, massacre “Operation Al Aqsa”—using the exact same justification as the Mufti in 1929.

The Leader Nobody Discusses: The Mufti’s Nazi Alliance

Speaking of Haj Amin al-Husseini—here’s the part of history that’s been systematically erased from textbooks and university curricula.

The Palestinian Arab national movement’s most prominent leader was a Nazi collaborator who spent World War II in Berlin, actively working to extend the Holocaust to the Middle East.

Let that fact settle in.

In 1941, Haj Amin al-Husseini fled to Nazi Germany, where he met personally with Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, and other top Nazi leaders. The meeting was covered by the German press. It’s documented in official German Foreign Ministry records.

What did the Mufti want?

According to the official German record of his November 28, 1941, meeting with Hitler, al-Husseini sought:

  1. Germany’s pledge not to occupy Arab lands
  2. Recognition of Arab independence
  3. Support for the “removal” of the Jewish homeland in Palestine

The Mufti sent Hitler 15 drafts of declarations requesting that Germany and Italy declare “the illegality of the Jewish home in Palestine” and grant Arabs “the right to solve the problem of the Jewish elements in Palestine and other Arab countries, in accordance with the interest of the Arabs and, by the same method, that the question is now being settled in the Axis countries.

Read that again. He wanted the Final Solution extended to the Middle East.

The Mufti’s Nazi Activities:

  • He recruited Bosnian Muslims for the Waffen-SS, helping create the 13th Waffen-SS Mountain Division “Handschar”
  • He produced Nazi propaganda broadcasts in Arabic, spreading anti-Jewish hatred throughout the Arab world
  • He blocked rescue efforts for Jewish children, writing to the Bulgarian, Hungarian, and Romanian governments in 1943, demanding they stop efforts to transfer Jewish children to Palestine, suggesting instead they be sent to Poland—to the death camps.
  • He collaborated with the Nazi intelligence apparatus and Adolf Eichmann

SS Chief Heinrich Himmler wrote to al-Husseini in 1943: “The National Socialist movement of Greater Germany has, since its inception, inscribed upon its flag the fight against world Jewry. It has therefore followed with particular sympathy the struggle of freedom-loving Arabs, especially in Palestine, against Jewish interlopers.”

After World War II, the Mufti was never prosecuted. He escaped to Cairo and continued leading Palestinian Arab nationalism—the same ideology that dominates Palestinian politics today.

This is who led the Palestinian Arab national movement. This is the ideological foundation that was never repudiated, never condemned, never addressed.

The Truth About Jewish “Colonization”: They Bought the Land

The Truth About Jewish Land Acquisition: Indigenous AND Legal

Here’s a fact that reveals the integrity of the Zionist project: Despite Jews being the indigenous people of this land, despite returning after centuries of exile, despite extensive archaeological evidence proving continuous Jewish presence for over 3,000 years, Jews still purchased land legally. At exorbitant prices.

Between 1880 and 1948, Jewish organizations and private individuals purchased approximately 463,000 acres in Palestine. How was this land acquired?

The breakdown:

  • 45,000 acres from the British Mandatory Government
  • 30,000 acres from various churches
  • 387,500 acres purchased from Arabs

Analysis of these land purchases shows that 73 percent of Jewish plots were purchased from large Arab landowners—not from poor peasants, but from wealthy absentee landlords who were happy to sell at inflated prices.

And what were those prices? In 1944, Jews paid between $1,000 and $1,100 per acre in Palestine for arid or semi-arid land. That same year, rich black soil in Iowa was selling for about $110 per acre.

Jews paid ten times more for barren land than Americans paid for prime farmland.

Why? Because they were building. They drained swamps, irrigated deserts, planted forests, and created agricultural settlements. They brought European technology and capital, transforming wasteland into productive farms.

The Arab landowners knew this. That’s why they sold—and at such enormous markups.

Even at the height of the 1936-1939 Arab revolt, the British High Commissioner noted that Arab landowners were so eager to sell that they were terrorized by Arab rebels for doing so. Many left Palestine entirely and sold their holdings to Jews.

This wasn’t theft. This was a legal purchase at inflated prices, followed by extraordinary development.

The Identity That Never Existed: “Palestinian” Was Geographic, Not National

Here’s a question: When did “Palestinian” become a national identity separate from “Arab”?

Answer: The 1960s.

Before that, “Palestinian” was a geographic term—like “Californian” or “Texan”—not a national or ethnic identity. It referred to anyone living in the geographic region of Palestine, including Jews.

In fact, many of the institutions called “Palestinian” before 1948 were Jewish:

  • The Palestine Post (now the Jerusalem Post) was a Jewish newspaper
  • The Palestine Symphony Orchestra was Jewish (now the Israel Philharmonic)
  • The Palestine Electric Company was Jewish
  • “Palestinian” passports issued under the British Mandate went to both Jews and Arabs

When Jews referred to themselves as “Palestinians” in the 1930s and 1940s, they meant residents of the geographic region—not members of a distinct national group.

The Arab residents didn’t call themselves “Palestinians” either. They identified as Arabs, as Muslims, or by their clan or village. They saw themselves as part of the broader Arab nation—”southern Syrians,” in many cases.

Even the 1964 Palestinian National Charter—the founding document of the Palestine Liberation Organization—stated explicitly in Article 1: “The Palestinian people are an integral part of the Arab nation.”

As late as 1977, PLO executive committee member Zahir Muhsein told a Dutch newspaper: “The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel.”

The creation of a distinct “Palestinian” national identity was a strategic invention—manufactured by the Soviet Union and Yasser Arafat in the 1960s as a weapon against Israel.

Before 1948, the Arabs living in Palestine were simply Arabs. After 1948, they suddenly became a unique “Palestinian people” with ancient roots and a distinct national identity. This transformation happened because it was politically advantageous, not because it reflected historical reality.

Why This Matters: The Palestinian Myth Serves a Strategic Purpose

Understanding all of this—the lack of a Palestinian state, the Arab illegal immigration, the massacres of Jews, the Mufti’s Nazi collaboration, the legal land purchases, the manufactured identity—reveals something crucial:

The “Palestinian narrative” isn’t about recovering a lost nation. It’s about denying Jewish rights to their indigenous homeland.

The "Palestinian narrative" isn't about recovering a lost nation. It's about denying Jewish rights to their indigenous homeland.

Palestinian statehood has been offered repeatedly—1937, 1947, 2000, 2001, 2008. Each time, the Palestinian leadership has rejected it. Why?

Because accepting a Palestinian state means accepting Israel’s existence. And that has always been unacceptable.

The Palestinian cause isn’t about borders or settlements or refugees. It’s about the fundamental rejection of Jewish sovereignty in any part of the historic Jewish homeland—a rejection rooted in the same ideology that drove the Hebron massacres and the Mufti’s Nazi collaboration.

This is why, even after Israel withdrew every settler and soldier from Gaza in 2005, Hamas didn’t build a Palestinian state. It built a terrorist infrastructure aimed at destroying Israel.

The goal was never Palestinian statehood. The goal was—and is—the elimination of the Jewish state.

Every claim is sourced. Every “fact” you’ve been taught is systematically dismantled. Every lie is exposed with primary source documents.

Because once you understand how this myth was manufactured—and why—you’ll never see this conflict the same way again.

What They’re Really Angry About

You want to know what really drives Palestinian rejectionism? Look at what they teach their children.

Palestinian Authority textbooks don’t show Israel on maps—they show “Palestine” encompassing all of Israel. Palestinian summer camps are named after terrorists. Streets are named after suicide bombers. “Martyrdom” is glorified.

They’re not teaching their children to build a state alongside Israel. They’re teaching them that Israel shouldn’t exist at all.

And Western progressives—who claim to care about Palestinian rights—enable this by perpetuating the myth that Palestinian rejectionism is justified, that violence is “resistance,” that terrorism is a response to “occupation.”

But you can’t resist an occupation if what you’re really resisting is the existence of the state itself.

Want to understand how the West became complicit in its own cultural suicide by embracing these lies? The Enemy Within: How the West Is Destroying Itself” connects the dots between Palestinian propaganda, Islamic expansionism, and the ideological capture of Western institutions.

Want to understand how the West became complicit in its own cultural suicide by embracing these lies? "The Enemy Within: How the West Is Destroying Itself" connects the dots between Palestinian propaganda, Islamic expansionism, and the ideological capture of Western institutions.

It reveals why Western universities teach the Palestinian narrative as gospel while erasing Jewish history. Why “diversity and inclusion” excludes Jews. Why “anti-colonialism” targets the world’s only Jewish state while ignoring actual ongoing colonization by Islamic regimes.

The Palestinian myth isn’t just about Israel—it’s a weapon in a broader civilizational conflict. And the West is losing because it refuses to name the enemy.

The Bottom Line: No, Palestine Was Not a Country Before 1948

Let’s return to the original question: Was Palestine a country before 1948?

No.

Palestine was a geographic region under foreign rule—first Ottoman, then British. It had no government, no currency, no borders, no distinct national identity. The Arabs living there saw themselves as part of the broader Arab nation, not as a unique “Palestinian people.”

The Jewish presence in the land is ancient, indigenous, and continuous. Jewish immigration was legal. Jewish land purchases were legal. Jewish settlement was authorized by international law through the League of Nations Mandate.

The creation of Israel in 1948 didn’t destroy a Palestinian state—because no Palestinian state existed to destroy.

What did happen in 1948? The Arabs rejected partition, launched a war to annihilate the Jewish state, and lost. The “Nakba” wasn’t inflicted on Palestinians by Jews—it was the consequence of a war the Arabs started and failed.

But here’s the strategic genius of the Palestinian myth: By rewriting history, Palestinian leadership has convinced the world that they’re victims of colonization rather than perpetrators of rejectionism.

***They’ve convinced universities to teach that Israel is an illegitimate colonial project.
***They’ve convinced the UN to pass more resolutions condemning Israel than any other nation on Earth.
***They’ve convinced human rights organizations to apply standards to Israel that they do not use to any other country.
***They’ve convinced progressives that supporting terrorism is “social justice.”

And they did it by manufacturing a nationalist myth, erasing inconvenient history, and weaponizing victimhood.

The Truth Is the Ultimate Threat

That’s why historical facts are so dangerous to the Palestinian narrative. That’s why the discussion of Arab illegal immigration is suppressed. That’s why the Mufti’s Nazi collaboration is erased from curricula. That’s why Jewish land purchases are ignored.

Because once you understand the actual history—documented, verifiable, impossible to deny—the entire narrative collapses.

Palestine was never a country before 1948. The Palestinian identity is a modern political invention. Arabs immigrated illegally to take advantage of Jewish economic development. Arabs massacred Jews long before Israel existed. The Palestinian national movement’s leader was a Nazi collaborator. Jews bought land legally at inflated prices.

None of these facts fit the narrative you’ve been taught.

But they’re all true. And truth, ultimately, is the only weapon against manufactured mythology.
